FOREIGNER’S RIGHT TO VOTE IN CHILE
When can foreign citizens exercise this right?
Once 5 years have elapsed since the granting of their first temporary residence permit.
Article 174 of Law No. 21.325, on Migration and Foreigners, establishes that for the purposes of exercising the right of suffrage in accordance with Article 14 of the Political Constitution, the term “avecindamiento” is understood as the period of time since the foreigner obtains a temporary residence permit and is automatically registered once the five years have elapsed.
